Toss Bank said on Feb. 19 it delivered Lunar New Year food packages to seniors living alone over the holiday period.
Toss Bank delivered about 14 million won worth of holiday food to 220 seniors living alone in Mapo and Seodaemun districts. The packages consisted of scorched rice chips and coffee sets. The bank worked with the Wooyang Foundation, a social welfare corporation specialising in food donations.
The donation is planned in consideration of the living conditions of seniors living alone, even as the holiday approaches.
The holiday food was delivered through the Wooyang Foundation’s Lunar New Year programme, called a “small feast”. It is a holiday programme in which seniors living alone gather to share a meal and interact. The event was held twice in Mapo and Seodaemun districts in the week before Lunar New Year. Food was also delivered individually to those who could not attend for health reasons, so that all recipients could receive the items.
The donation used products from Bravo Beaver, a standard workplace for people with disabilities. Bravo Beaver is a company that contributes to creating jobs for people with developmental disabilities, and Toss Bank is practising the expansion of inclusive employment through product purchases.
A Toss Bank official said, “We prepared this donation to ease, even a little, the loneliness and burden that seniors living alone feel as the holiday approaches.” The official added, “It was even more meaningful because it did not stop at delivering food, but allowed seniors to share a meal together and share the meaning of the holiday.”
