South Korea’s Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Creative Content Agency, or KOCCA, will invest a total of 23.6 billion won to help commercialise domestic games and support overseas expansion.
On Wednesday, KOCCA said it is accepting applications until March 3 for companies to take part in its 2026 game content production support programme.
This year’s programme consists of general games (PC, console, mobile, arcade and board games), designated functional games and AI games. It plans to support about 82 projects in total.
The largest programme, general game content production support, was allocated a total of 19.3 billion won. It covers five areas: PC, console, mobile, arcade and board games. This year it added a “launch type (second year)” category for mobile games, allowing support for up to two consecutive years. The plan is to strengthen continuous support from development through commercialisation.
The newly created AI game content production support programme will receive 2.7 billion won. It will identify innovative content that uses AI technology as a core element of gameplay and provide up to 300 million won per project. The aim is to secure future growth engines for K-games and pre-empt global technological competitiveness.
Functional game content production support will be operated on a scale of 1.6 billion won. It will provide up to 300 million won per project for games that combine elements of social contribution, seniors and people with disabilities, and preventive and therapeutic use.
Selected games will receive support for playtest evaluations (FGT) involving domestic and overseas users and experts, as well as pre-launch quality inspections. They will also be offered commercialisation support such as participation in overseas exhibitions including ChinaJoy, gamescom and the Tokyo Game Show, and links to financial investment and loans.
KOCCA will also hold a briefing session on Feb. 24 at the CKL Business Support Center in Gwanghwamun, Seoul, to provide guidance on support details and how to apply.
