World Labs has raised $200 million in investment from Autodesk, TechCrunch reported on Feb. 18 local time.
World Labs received $230 million in funding in 2024 at a $1 billion valuation and is now conducting another funding round at a $5 billion valuation, the report said.
World Labs unveiled its AI model "Marvel" in November last year to automatically generate 3D environments. It is continuing to improve features for creating and manipulating 3D spaces. Autodesk will not join World Labs' board, but the companies plan to work together to advance spatial AI technology. They plan to combine the World Labs AI model with Autodesk CAD software to develop new use cases in architecture, engineering and entertainment.
Fei-Fei Li (페이페이 리), a World Labs co-founder and Stanford University professor, said, "Autodesk is a company that has led spatial perception technology, and this collaboration will help AI understand the physical world and contribute to augmenting creativity."
World Labs is conducting research to make its 3D spatial AI model more sophisticated. It plans to apply the technology to various industries including architecture, manufacturing and games.
World Labs is also working on a project using Marvel to recreate historic buildings in a specific area. Li said, "It is important for AI to go beyond simple data analysis and understand the structure and dynamics of the physical world," and added, "World Labs will lead innovation on a new level through the convergence of AI and spatial technology."
