[DigitalToday reporter Chi-gyu Hwang (황치규)] Red Hat said on Feb. 17 it launched the Digital Sovereignty Readiness Assessment, a self-assessment tool that measures companies' digital sovereignty maturity.
The Digital Sovereignty Readiness Assessment tool evaluates seven areas: data sovereignty, technology sovereignty, operational sovereignty, assurance sovereignty, open source awareness, executive oversight and managed services. Companies receive a maturity score after completing the assessment. The score is classified into 4 stages: Foundation, Developing, Strategic and Advanced.
Red Hat views digital sovereignty as centered on companies deciding for themselves where and how to run workloads, and as an issue of operational freedom beyond simple regulatory compliance. Many companies, however, face difficulties securing independence due to black-box stacks, limited options and fragmented data silos, the company said.
Along with the maturity score, the tool also provides a step-by-step action plan that includes specific improvement tasks and review questions for stakeholders. Red Hat also released the tool's source code to ensure transparency in the assessment criteria.
Red Hat earlier announced the Red Hat Confirmed Sovereign Support service for companies in the European Union.
