Science and ICT First Vice Minister Ku Hyeok-chae (구혁채) visited the Korea Institute of Geoscience and Mineral Resources in Daejeon on the afternoon of Feb. 17 to encourage employees working on safety duties over the Lunar New Year holiday.
The earthquake comprehensive situation room at the institute’s Complex Earthquake Detection Research Center monitors and analyses earthquakes on and around the Korean peninsula. It operates 24 hours a day year-round for real-time response.
When an earthquake occurs, it shares observation information with relevant agencies through the National Earthquake Observation Network to help the public check earthquake information in real time and prepare.
Ku told staff, "Thanks to your efforts, our people are spending the Lunar New Year holiday with peace of mind," and asked them to "continue to take every possible measure to ensure thorough earthquake monitoring and analysis."
