The Personal Information Protection Commission and the Korea Internet & Security Agency held a briefing on Monday at 2 p.m. at the Korea Advertising Culture Center in Songpa-gu, Seoul, on systems related to the expansion of data portability requests and a MyData support project.

The briefing drew about 300 participants, including officials from related ministries such as the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, some 20 public institutions including the Human Resources Development Service of Korea, the National Health Insurance Service and the Health Insurance Review and Assessment Service, and representatives from private companies and institutions in finance, retail, telecommunications, education and energy. The commission explained the detailed scope of information subject to data transfer requests and methods of transmission, and gathered on-site feedback.

It also shared details of a 1.7 billion won public contest project to support discovery of MyData services that people can feel, including healthcare, telecommunications, energy and cross-sector services converged with finance, support for integrated management of personal information, and stronger personal information safeguards for public websites to help entrench the right to request data transfers and activate the data economy.

Lee Jeong-ryeol (이정렬), vice chairperson of the commission, said, "Through the MyData service support project, we identified and supported services such as personalised prevention and management of chronic and severe diseases, and medical support services for people staying overseas. We will continue to provide converged MyData services that bring together various industries and actively contribute to solving difficult social problems."

The commission plans to produce and distribute a guide that includes details of revisions to the enforcement decree of the Personal Information Protection Act. It also plans to hold regional on-site briefings to help data transmitters and data subjects fully understand the revisions and prepare for them.
