[Digital Today, reporter Jin-ho Lee (이진호)] South Korea's Ministry of Science and ICT and the Institute of Information and Communications Technology Planning and Evaluation (IITP) announced on Feb. 13 the 2026 implementation plan for the software competency test (TOPCIT).

TOPCIT is a system that assesses practical skills required in industry for software majors, employees and others. This year, the TOPCIT regular assessment will be held twice, split into the first and second halves. The first half (25th) is on May 16, and the second half (26th) is on Oct. 10.

Under a partial revision this year to the implementation guidelines for the software competency test, TOPCIT established new indicators for emerging technology-based competencies such as AI and data and increased the weight of technical areas. It will be administered with a revised question structure, including removing short-answer question types, to focus on practical skills.
