Hong Beom-sik (홍범식), chief executive officer of LG Uplus, visited a network inspection site and stressed workers’ safety.

Hong visited a telecommunications equipment inspection site in Seoul’s Mapo district on the afternoon of March 12, experiencing work safety procedures firsthand and communicating with employees. He rode in a bucket truck used to inspect elevated telecommunications equipment and checked a fiber access enclosure 5 metres high, reviewing safety measures from workers’ perspective.

Hong said he felt that working conditions at sites were not easy and that he hoped employees could work more safely. He also said safety accidents last year were falling sharply compared with the year before last and thanked employees who worked hard at the site.

After the on-site inspection, Hong met employees in charge of metropolitan-area infrastructure to discuss network operations and safety management. He said spending related to safety should be viewed as investment and that, regardless of a company’s profits, investment in safety is essential, so it is necessary to check whether safety investments are being made systematically.

Since taking office, Hong has consistently stressed the importance of fundamentals such as quality, safety and security. Last year, he visited Daejeon R&D as his first on-site management location and reviewed network quality. At the MWC26 event in Barcelona, Spain, he said it was necessary to keep investing in fundamentals such as security, quality and safety, along with AI infrastructure and customer value, again stressing fundamentals-focused management.

The company explained that the visit reflected Hong’s resolve to recheck telecommunications business fundamentals as global AI technology competition intensifies. Hong plans to continue visiting various sites, including network sites and customer centres, to communicate and review telecommunications business fundamentals.
