Samsung Electronics supplied high-performance monitors to the judging areas for short track speed skating at the 2026 Milan Cortina Winter Olympics. Samsung Electronics said on Wednesday it provided its ViewFinity S8 and Odyssey Ark monitors to the venue's field of play area and the Olympic video room.
Short track speed skating is a sport in which rankings are decided by differences of 0.001 seconds. Fleeting moments such as slight contact between athletes or the position of a skate blade determine wins and losses. As a result, displays for accurate judging require a higher level of precision and reliability than general products. At the Olympic venue, where numerous screens are monitored quickly to decide broadcast feeds, large high-resolution monitors with fast response times are needed.
In the field of play area, where judges conduct video reviews, 37-inch ViewFinity S8 monitors were installed. The ViewFinity S8 has 4K UHD (3840x2160) resolution and a 16:9 aspect ratio. The expanded screen compared with an existing 32-inch model shows detailed elements of competition footage larger at the same magnification.
Odyssey Ark monitors were installed in a video room operated by OBS, the official Olympic broadcaster under the International Olympic Committee (IOC). Odyssey Ark applies a curved screen with 1,000R curvature on a 55-inch large display to minimize distortion and maximize immersion. It supports 4K UHD resolution (3840x2160) and a fast response time of 1 ms (GtG), enabling clear portrayal of dynamic scenes in fast-paced short track races, the company explained.
Lee Heon (이헌), a vice president of Samsung Electronics' Visual Display Business, said that in sports like short track, where brief moments can determine decisions, it is important to confirm scenes as accurately as possible on site and to deliver optimal video feeds. He said the company plans to continue introducing displays optimized for global sports events and a range of on-site operating environments.
