The KOSPI on Feb. 12 broke through the 5,400 mark for the first time, setting a new record high once again.
The KOSPI opened up 70.90 points, or 1.32 percent, from the previous session at 5,425.39. As of 9:10 a.m., it was up 55.68 points, or 1.04 percent, at 5,410.17.
Individuals were buying 112 billion won worth of shares, while foreign investors and institutions were selling 55.8 billion won and 65.6 billion won, respectively.
Samsung Electronics was trading at 170,900 won, up 3,100 won, or 1.85 percent, from the previous day. SK Hynix was up 20,000 won, or 2.33 percent, at 880,000 won, with the two semiconductor heavyweights rising in tandem.
Among other top market-cap stocks, LG Energy Solution was up 0.77 percent, Samsung Biologics gained 0.06 percent, SK Square rose 4.32 percent and KB Financial Group added 0.55 percent.
Hyundai Motor was down 1.38 percent, Kia fell 0.25 percent and Doosan Enerbility slipped 2.93 percent.
At the same time, the Kosdaq index was up 2.94 points, or 0.26 percent, from the previous session at 1,117.81.
