Police have formed a task force team to take a comprehensive look at allegations related to Coupang, it has been learned.

According to police on Thursday, the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency formed the task force team a day earlier to focus on investigating allegations involving Coupang, led by an assistant commissioner-level investigations chief as team leader.

The move is intended to investigate all allegations at the same time as complaints and accusations against Coupang continue, including a personal data leak incident and allegations of concealing industrial accidents.

The task force consists of 86 members, including the Seoul agency's cyber investigation division that had been probing the personal data leak case, as well as the investigation division and the Metropolitan Investigation Unit's financial crime investigation squad, criminal mobile unit and public crime investigation squad.

The task force will also handle the case involving former Coupang CEO Park Dae-joon, who was accused over allegations of an expensive meal with Democratic Party lawmaker Kim Byung-kee. However, the probe will center on Coupang-related cases involving Park and others, while the investigation into Kim will be conducted separately by the public crime investigation squad.

With the launch of the police task force, it is also expected to investigate a case in which the National Assembly accused current and former Coupang executives, including Coupang Inc chairman Kim Beom-seok and interim CEO Harold Rogers, of violating the Act on Testimony, Appraisal, etc. before the National Assembly.
