Online shopping transaction value in November last year topped 24 trillion won, a record high.

According to the National Data Agency's "Online Shopping Trends for November 2025" released on Thursday, online shopping transaction value in November last year rose 6.8 percent from a year earlier to 24.1613 trillion won. It was the largest since related statistics began in January 2017.

Food service transactions posted a sharp increase, rising 13.7 percent from a year earlier, influenced by delivery platforms' "free delivery" marketing.

Grocery transactions also rose 10.1 percent as online grocery shopping spread.

Travel and transport services transactions gained 8.5 percent, helped by a recovery in domestic and overseas travel demand and the second-half "Lodging Sale Festa".

In contrast, transaction value fell for some categories, including home appliances and electronics, down 4.9 percent. The agency pointed to fewer promotional events by shopping malls than a year earlier as the cause.

Mobile shopping transactions within online shopping rose 7.9 percent from a year earlier to 18.5941 trillion won, also a record high.

Mobile shopping accounted for 77.0 percent of total online shopping transaction value, up 0.9 percentage points from 76.1 percent a year earlier.

The survey did not reflect the impact of the so-called "Coupang incident," in which a large-scale membership withdrawal occurred following a personal data leak accident.

That was because the personal data leak became known in late November last year, and membership withdrawals took place after that.

An agency official said Coupang users may also have moved to other online shopping malls, so the impact of the incident will need to be monitored.
