SK Planet said on Tuesday its points platform OK Cashbag has partnered with CGV and launched a real-time movie ticket booking service.

With the CGV partnership, OK Cashbag now provides booking services at all three of South Korea's major multiplex chains, following Megabox and Lotte Cinema.

OK Cashbag partnered with Megabox in July 2022 and with Lotte Cinema in October last year. The addition of CGV completes its multiplex ticket booking service.

OK Cashbag customers can book tickets and select seats in the OK Cashbag app without installing a separate cinema app. The service is available without limits based on mobile carriers or discount-use caps, and users can pay with a mix of points and cash.

The company said a high repeat-visit rate was behind the service expansion. Based on an analysis of data over the past year, the one-month repeat-visit rate among movie ticketing users was 76 percent, and loyal customers booked movies an average of 5.5 times a year. More than 55 percent of main users were in their 20s and 30s.

It will also run a coupon event for Lotte Cinema users throughout February. With the coupon applied, users can book for 8,900 won when paying entirely with points, or 9,400 won with a combined cash-and-points payment.

Kim Kyo-soo (김교수), head of SK Planet's business division, said the partnerships with the three domestic multiplex chains expanded access to its moviegoing service. He said the company would continue to expand the customer experience through links with movie-focused channels.
