[DigitalToday reporter Chi-gyu Hwang (황치규)] Disney+ will introduce a short-form video feed similar to TikTok and Instagram Reels, called Verts, to U.S. users on its mobile app, TechCrunch reported on Wednesday.

Verts offers short edits of scenes from films and TV shows. Users can browse the feed, add content they like to a wishlist or watch it immediately.

Disney said on its official blog: "We have delivered more than 100 years of storytelling in a modern format so fans can easily discover new content." Disney plans to include not only Disney+ content on Verts but also creator content and various storytelling formats.

Disney said a pilot run of Verts on Disney+ and ESPN in August led to increased user engagement. It is an analysis that this was the result of providing personalised content in a similar way to the recommendation algorithm that led TikTok to success. Netflix has also entered the short-form content race, introducing a vertical feed showing clips of original content since last year.

Disney+ and Netflix are strengthening short-form content as a strategy aimed at mobile-first viewers. Both companies appear to be trying to attract interest with short videos and then lead viewers to full films or TV shows.
