Netflix has agreed to acquire InterPositive, an AI company co-founded by Ben Affleck (벤 애플렉), for up to $600 million, TechCrunch reported on March 11, citing Bloomberg News. The deal would be Netflix’s second-largest acquisition.
Netflix did not officially disclose the deal size. Sources said the initial cash payment would be less than $600 million and InterPositive owners would receive additional bonuses if they meet certain performance targets.
InterPositive’s technology helps filmmakers resolve discontinuities during editing or improve scenes. It does not generate new content or operate without original footage.
Netflix has already used generative AI in its own content. It used AI to create a building-collapse scene in the Argentine science fiction series "The Eternaut" and also introduced AI in the animated series "Scott Pilgrim Takes Off."
Rivals are taking similar steps. Amazon has built an in-house AI team for film and TV production, while Disney has partnered with OpenAI.
