AT&T, Amazon Web Services and Amazon Leo will cooperate to accelerate the modernisation of U.S. telecoms infrastructure and support next-generation cloud innovation for U.S. companies, they said on Wednesday.

The 3 companies plan to build future connectivity solutions by combining AT&T’s fibre network with AWS security and AI capabilities.

AT&T plans to migrate some workloads of its on-premises technology currently in operation to AWS Outposts, an AWS on-premises managed hybrid cloud service, to increase the pace of internal transformation and operational efficiency. With support from AWS Professional Services, AT&T is moving network service activation functions to AWS using Amazon Q Developer and other AWS agentic services.

To strengthen AWS cloud infrastructure for all customers, AT&T plans to connect AWS data centres with high-capacity fibre.

AT&T also plans to work with Amazon Leo, Amazon’s low-Earth-orbit satellite network. AT&T plans to receive internet connectivity services through Amazon Leo to expand its connectivity capabilities and provide fixed broadband internet services to business customers in areas that need service.

Shawn Hakl (숀 하클), senior vice president of business products at AT&T, said the cooperation with AWS is a significant step in shaping the future of U.S. connectivity. He said fibre is the foundation of that future, providing the speed, capacity and stability required by modern networks. He said the cooperation, which combines AT&T’s expanding fibre infrastructure with AWS cloud capabilities and connects data centres to build future infrastructure, is creating a more resilient, scalable and intelligent connectivity ecosystem. He said AT&T provides reliable high-speed connectivity to customers everywhere.

Jan Hofmeyr (얀 호프마이르), vice president of telecommunications at AWS, said AWS is cooperating to help AT&T achieve its goal of expanding connectivity across the United States. He said AT&T is using AWS cloud capabilities and AI tools to accelerate infrastructure modernisation, and AWS benefits from AT&T’s expertise in high-capacity fibre networking. He said combining AT&T’s fibre networking leadership with AWS cloud and AI capabilities is creating new opportunities to provide innovative services to customers across the United States.
