Rumours have emerged that Nvidia is preparing a next-generation ultra-high-performance RTX 5090Ti graphics card, but scepticism about an actual launch is widespread. Analysts also say that even if the product appears, it is unlikely to be a model aimed at gamers.

According to VideoCardz, cited by IT outlet TechRadar on Feb. 9, French technology outlet Overclocking.com reported that it heard from multiple sources that Nvidia could launch a high-end RTX 50xx series GPU in the third quarter of 2026. The sources mentioned the possibility that the product could be an RTX 5090Ti, or a Titan-class model positioned at the very top of the GeForce lineup.

Overclocking.com also took a cautious stance on the rumour. It said it had heard similar talk at CES 2026 but did not publish it at the time, judging it to be less credible given a serious VRAM supply shortage.

The biggest reason the prospects for an RTX 5090Ti launch are seen as low is memory supply. The industry widely believes Nvidia has effectively halted plans this year for Super refresh models in the RTX 5000 series and additional gaming GPU launches. That is because allocating expensive VRAM to far more profitable artificial intelligence accelerators is seen as more advantageous for Nvidia than using it in consumer GPUs.

If the RTX 5090Ti is released, it is likely to come with more VRAM than the existing RTX 5090. But that runs directly counter to current memory supply conditions. The RTX 5090 already has abnormally high retail prices due to supply limits and price inflation. Analysts say there is little incentive to add an even more expensive Ti model in such a situation.

The need for an RTX 5090Ti is also limited in performance terms. The GB202 chip in the RTX 5090 is already being used close to its maximum, and even with all cores fully enabled, performance gains are expected to be around 10 percent. With limited perceived gains relative to cost, it is less convincing as a product for gamers.

If the rumour is true, the industry sees the GPU as more likely to be a Titan-class product aimed at prosumers or the workstation market rather than general consumers. Even so, given VRAM supply conditions, it is unclear whether Nvidia will take such an ultra-premium GeForce model all the way to launch. It is also possible that the project could be halted at the design review stage.

In the end, the prevailing view is that the RTX 5090Ti is unlikely to be released in the near term, and that an extreme forecast that no new GeForce gaming GPU will be released at all in 2026 is also hard to trust.
