AI data centre network equipment developer Nexthop AI has completed a $500 million Series B funding round, SiliconANGLE reported on Tuesday. The round was led by Lightspeed Venture Partners, with participation from Andreessen Horowitz, Altimeter and existing investors. The funding values Nexthop AI at $4.2 billion.

Nexthop AI unveiled three new switches - NH-4010, NH-4220 and NH-5010 - alongside the funding announcement. The equipment is designed to optimise data traffic handling within AI clusters and is based on Broadcom chips. The NH-4010 can handle 51.2 terabits per second of traffic, and the NH-4220 supports twice that capacity. The company stressed that the NH-4010 is 20 percent more power-efficient than competing products and can save tens of megawatts of energy per unit.

Nexthop AI plans to use the funding for new product development and technology upgrades. Andreessen Horowitz partner Raghu Raghuram (라구 라구람) said, "As AI clusters put pressure on data centre network performance, Nexthop provides the best solution to address it."
