KakaoPay said on Monday it released gift-money trends and user survey results based on Lunar New Year remittance-envelope data, through its consumer finance brand journal PayerTention.

In the survey, users cited “gift money and various expenses” as the most burdensome factor during the Lunar New Year. KakaoPay’s analysis of remittance-envelope data during the Lunar New Year holiday showed that, as of 2025, 100,000 won was the most common amount of gift money received by middle and high school students through Lunar New Year remittance envelopes. Through 2024, 50,000 won (39 percent) narrowly led 100,000 won (37 percent), but in 2025, 100,000 won (42 percent) overtook 50,000 won (37 percent).

It also said the average Lunar New Year holiday allowance that users in their 20s to 40s sent to their parents’ generation via remittance envelopes was 227,000 won. The average was 190,000 won for users in their 20s, 220,000 won for those in their 30s and 230,000 won for those in their 40s, showing a slight increase with age.

Based on these data, KakaoPay planned a promotion titled “Surviving Lunar New Year” to help users overcome holiday hardships in a lighthearted way.

The first mission, “Solve the survival quiz,” is a user-participation activity. Users who take part in the Lunar New Year quiz through the end receive 30 KakaoPay Points immediately. In the “survival mission,” users who collect 4 stamps enter a draw for 2,000 winners to receive 3,000 KakaoPay Points, and those who collect all 6 stamps enter a draw for a total of 10 winners to receive 1,000,000 KakaoPay Points.

KakaoPay said it planned the promotion so users can overcome realistic concerns they feel during the holidays in a lighthearted way and enjoy tangible benefits. It said it will continue to expand touchpoints across users’ lifestyles through differentiated content that connects everyday life and finance.
