Naver Pay (Npay) said on Tuesday it signed a business agreement with cloud-based retail technology firm Retail & Insight to drive digital innovation in South Korea’s retail distribution market.

Under the agreement, the offline integrated terminal Npay Connect is set to be introduced as a standard device at about 4,000 small and mid-sized marts nationwide that have franchise contracts with Retail & Insight. Retail & Insight provides integrated systems for local marts through its Tomato Solution, including POS (point-of-sale), ERP (enterprise resource planning), ordering and payment apps, smart flyers and kiosks.

With the introduction of Npay Connect, local marts will be able to offer various payment methods including cash, card, simple payments and NFC, as well as Naver Pay’s facial recognition payment service Facesign. Customers will be able to leave Naver reviews immediately after payment, and discount coupons provided by marts can also be applied directly through the terminal.

From March, Npay Connect terminals will be installed sequentially at local marts using Tomato Solution, and Npay on-site payment promotions are also set to be held.

The two companies plan to review financial support measures for shared growth to help local marts by combining Retail & Insight’s POS and ERP data with Npay payment data. They also plan to explore ways to offer benefits that can enhance the customer experience based on data analysis.

Lee Hyang-cheol (이향철), head leader of Npay payment services, said the agreement would help make Npay Connect a catalyst for innovation in the payment ecosystem of South Korea’s retail distribution market. He said the company would boost the digital competitiveness of small business merchants and provide a more convenient user experience for store visitors.
