MegazoneCloud, a cloud company, said it shared industrial uses of quantum technology and corporate strategy with about 30 MBA students at the University of Texas at Austin's McCombs School of Business.
MegazoneCloud on March 10 hosted 37 visitors, including 33 McCombs MBA students, a supervising professor and university officials, at its Megazone industry-academia-research center in Gwacheon. It held a 'Quantum & Cloud Strategy Day' event. The visit took place as part of the McCombs MBA global field study program, Global Connections.
The program marked the second official visit event following a quantum computing experience program held for UT undergraduates in October last year. While the undergraduate program focused on basic theory and hands-on experience, the MBA visit addressed the industrial applicability of quantum technology and corporate strategic responses from the perspective of management and business leaders.
MegazoneCloud introduced examples of quantum technology applications in global industry, including a nickel catalyst reaction simulation for new drug and new material development by AstraZeneca and IonQ, optimal route searches to improve distribution efficiency for ExxonMobil's liquefied natural gas network, and cases involving JPMorgan and Toshiba. It explained the latest trends in how companies across industries such as pharmaceuticals, energy and finance are testing and validating quantum technologies to solve real business problems.
Philip Cornelius Glover (필립 코넬리우스 글로버), a researcher at MegazoneCloud's Quantum Innovation Laboratory, introduced an optimal route-search case in maritime energy logistics. "Maritime transport involves many factors, and there are limits to finding efficient routes with conventional methods, but if it is converted into a quantum optimization form, it can accurately identify the optimal transport route," he said. "This is an example where applicability in industry is becoming more concrete through ongoing research," he said.
Dongho Kim (김동호), chief quantum officer at MegazoneCloud, said, "We hope this visit served as an opportunity for students to view quantum computing from the perspective of real industrial strategy." "MegazoneCloud plans to continue expanding cooperation with global universities and research institutions so that quantum technology can lead to business innovation," he said.
Urooj Kahn (우루즈 칸), a professor in the McCombs MBA program, said, "It was a useful course for MBA students to see how global companies apply concepts learned in the classroom as business strategy in real business settings." "We expect such cooperation through a partnership with MegazoneCloud to play an important role in preparing the next generation of business leaders amid a rapidly changing technological environment," he said.
