LG Uplus is working with global cybersecurity company Fortinet to introduce cloud-based security services.
LG Uplus said on Tuesday it signed a memorandum of understanding with Fortinet on March 4 (local time) at MWC26 in Barcelona to strengthen the competitiveness of its security services. The signing ceremony was attended by Kwon Yong-hyun (권용현), head of LG Uplus' enterprise division and a vice president, and Thomas Desrues (Thomas Desrues), Fortinet's vice president of channel sales for Europe, the Middle East and Africa and South Asia, among others.
Under the partnership, the two companies will step up cooperation on new services such as SASE (Secure Access Service Edge) optimised for cloud environments. SASE refers to an integrated security solution that combines network connectivity and security into a single offering.
As corporate work environments rapidly shift from office-centred settings to cloud-based systems, more employees are accessing company systems from a wider range of locations and devices. LG Uplus explained that this has made it necessary to build a security framework suited to increasingly complex access environments.
The companies plan to enhance solutions that can apply consistent security policies and strengthen security solutions by building systems based on "Zero Trust" that continuously verify all access attempts. They also plan to diversify their lineup of security solutions to meet company-specific, segmented needs while aligning with global standards, and expand cooperation to pursue customised solution businesses.
Kwon said, "Through cooperation with Fortinet, we expect to be able to secure global-level competitiveness in cloud security services." He added, "We will continue to strengthen the competitiveness of our security services so companies can carry out their work with peace of mind in the era of digital transformation."
Desrues said, "Through our partnership with LG Uplus, we will be able to provide a range of security solutions in the South Korean market." He added, "We will combine the capabilities of both companies to provide customers with the best security services."
LG Uplus also unveiled "U+SASE", which it is developing in-house, at MWC26. U+SASE won the grand prize at the "K-Security Alliance Security Collaboration Cases and Idea Contest" hosted by the Ministry of Science and ICT and the Korea Internet & Security Agency (KISA) in 2024, and is set to be officially launched soon.
