As X's, formerly Twitter, digital payments service X Money moves closer to launch, attention is also focusing on why Elon Musk does not publicly mention XRP.

On March 9, blockchain outlet The Crypto Basic reported that X Money’s payment structure and banking partnerships are being cited as reasons for Musk’s silence on XRP.

X Money supports U.S. dollar payments based on existing banking infrastructure. Customer funds are kept at Cross River Bank, which is covered by U.S. Federal Deposit Insurance Corp insurance. The service also operates with a focus on fiat currencies rather than digital assets. Because of this, some XRP supporters interpret X Money as placing more weight on the traditional financial system than on cryptocurrencies.

Some, however, are focusing on the fact that Cross River, X Money’s banking partner, has previously used Ripple’s technology. In 2014, Cross River used the Ripple protocol to pursue real-time international remittances between the United States and Western Europe. Based on this, some XRP supporters are raising the possibility that X Money could later connect to Ripple-based infrastructure.

X Money has completed internal tests and entered a limited external beta stage. Users can store funds on the X platform, check balances, and send money or make payments. It also supports instant transfers through cooperation with Visa. Creator revenue such as advertising proceeds, subscriptions and tips is also expected to be paid directly into X Money accounts, it was reported.

Because of this, some in the market suggest Musk may be avoiding direct mention of XRP in consideration of regulatory risk. Since X Money is launching based on regulated banking infrastructure and dollar payments, an open link to a specific cryptocurrency could complicate the service’s regulatory standing.

X Money is also seen as one of the core pillars of Musk’s super app plan. While it is currently focused on dollar payments, the market is also watching the possibility that cryptocurrencies such as bitcoin and dogecoin could be added later.
