South Korea's KOSPI opened higher on Jan. 2, the first trading day of 2026, and soon hit a fresh intraday record high.
As of 10:02 a.m., the KOSPI was up 15.40 points, or 0.37 percent, at 4,229.57 from the previous session.
The KOSPI's previous intraday record high was 4,226.75, set on Nov. 4 last year, and the index surpassed it as soon as trading began this year.
The index opened up 10.36 points, or 0.25 percent, at 4,224.53 and appears to be moderating its gains.
At the same time, the Kosdaq was up 5.30 points, or 0.57 percent, at 930.77.
The stock market opened at 10 a.m., one hour later than usual, due to the '2026 Securities and Derivatives Market Opening Ceremony'. The closing time was unchanged.
