Nokia said on March 10 it worked with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to deploy an agentic AI-based 5G-Advanced network slicing solution on a live 5G network.

The companies said the intent-based 5G slicing deployment combines Nokia's network slicing technology with AWS AI platform technology to help telecom operators provide premium services where and when needed. du, one of the UAE's two telecom operators, and France-based global telecom operator Orange are reviewing the technology for their networks.

Network slicing is a technology that splits a single physical network infrastructure into multiple independent virtual networks. Nokia's AI slicing solution, running on AWS, uses agentic AI to analyse real internet data such as location, events, traffic, incidents and maps, helping telecom operators provide adaptive network slicing.

The companies said the agentic AI-based approach delivers premium services that respond intelligently to changing conditions, ensuring optimal performance at the time and place customers need it and creating meaningful customer value across various applications and use cases.

Telecom operators can struggle to optimise network performance when unpredictable events occur, such as traffic surges, emergencies and large gatherings, which can lead to lower service quality and inefficient resource use. Autonomous network slicing intelligence helps them dynamically respond to and manage challenging traffic conditions across different regions.

Amir Rao (아미르 라오), global director for GTM and telecom solutions at AWS, said network slicing has long presented the potential to create new revenue sources for operators, but manual configuration and static policies have limited end customers' access to on-demand provisioning. By integrating agentic AI capabilities via Amazon Bedrock with Nokia applications, operators can now provide intelligent, context-aware network slicing that dynamically responds to real-world situations ranging from traffic surges to emergencies, he said.
