Kakao said on Sunday that its location-based lifestyle platform KakaoMap has opened an indoor map service for major agricultural and fisheries markets in Seoul and Gyeonggi.

The update was carried out to help users visiting markets for the holiday find desired shops and convenience facilities quickly without getting lost inside complex interiors.

The newly added indoor maps cover more than 10 major large markets in the Seoul metropolitan area, including Seoul's Garak Mall (the retail zone inside Garak Market), Gyeongdong Market, Yakryeong Market and the Dongseo and Cheonggwamul Market, as well as Gyeonggi's Guri Agricultural and Fisheries Market.

Users can see detailed information by floor at a glance by searching for the markets in the KakaoMap mobile app. The app mirrors the actual floor plans to improve usability, showing the locations of each store and facilities such as elevators, escalators and restrooms.

Users can also tap a store icon to view a range of content including detailed information, photos and reviews, allowing them to check what they need before visiting. It also plans to add road view images showing the inside of markets to help with navigation.

Kyeong-hwa Bang (방경화), leader of Kakao's Map Data Platform Tribe, said, "Ahead of the Lunar New Year holiday, we updated the indoor maps so market visitors can shop more conveniently." She added, "We plan to continue introducing indoor maps not only for shopping malls and markets but also for a range of cultural spaces such as exhibitions and performance venues."
