NHN's senior care unit Wafflat is joining hands with Jeongseon County to strengthen elderly care services using AI technology.

On Feb. 9, Wafflat said it signed a four-party business agreement with Jeongseon County Office, the Kangwon Land Social Contribution Foundation and Woorijumin Co. for the 'Wafflat AI living support assistant support project'.

The agreement was 추진됐다 to build a smart care model through public-private cooperation. The four organisations will provide the service from April to December to people aged 65 and older living alone in Jeongseon County. It aims to reduce caregivers' workloads and help the safety and emotional stability of elderly people living alone.

Wafflat's AI living support assistant is a service that uses a smartphone to provide integrated management of seniors' safety, wellbeing, health, daily life and emotional state. Key functions include AI-based five-step wellbeing checks and 24-hour monitoring, dispatch linked to 112, cardiovascular health and stress measurements approved by the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety, consultations with medical professionals and medication reminders.

A conversational AI service using AI human technology is at the core. It sets a persona based on a female care worker in her 50s who works in the field to enhance familiarity. It embeds a generative large language model, or LLM, specialised for conversations with older people, enabling natural calls and periodic checks of seven major risk factors, including mood, health, sleep and meals. Jeongseon County is the first local government in South Korea to introduce the service.

Under the agreement, Jeongseon County Office will oversee overall planning and operational management of the project. The Kangwon Land Social Contribution Foundation and Woorijumin Co. will support service fees and monitoring. Wafflat will provide the platform and carry out system upgrades.

Hwang Sun-young (황선영), head of Wafflat, said it will help support caregivers' work through an AI living support assistant specialised for conversations with older people. She said it will gradually expand cooperation with local governments starting with Jeongseon County.
