The KOSPI opened up more than 4 percent and briefly rose into the 5,310s.
As of 9:10 a.m., the KOSPI was up 208.16 points, or 4.09 percent, from the previous session at 5,297.30.
The index opened up 209.96 points, or 4.13 percent, from the previous session at 5,299.10.
Retail investors were net sellers of 442.6 billion won, while foreigners and institutions were net buyers of 115.7 billion won and 299.9 billion won, respectively.
At the same time, Samsung Electronics was trading at 167,500 won, up 8,900 won, or 5.61 percent, from the previous session, while SK Hynix was up 50,000 won, or 5.96 percent, at 889,000 won.
SK Square rose 8.75 percent, Doosan Enerbility gained 8.43 percent, Hanwha Aerospace added 5.08 percent, Samsung Electronics preferred shares rose 3.74 percent, LG Energy Solution climbed 2.47 percent, Hyundai Motor gained 1.93 percent, Kia rose 0.92 percent and Samsung Biologics added 0.84 percent.
The KOSDAQ index was also up 35.46 points, or 3.28 percent, from the previous session at 1,116.23.
