Studio Lico, a subsidiary of Naver Webtoon, has begun developing a new game using the intellectual property of the globally popular webtoon 'The Starry Swordmaster'.

On Feb. 9, Studio Lico said it will work with CodeDragon to develop a new mobile action role-playing game. Studio Lico will handle publishing and CodeDragon will be responsible for development.

The original is a novel-comic based on a web novel of the same name. It follows Vlad, a boy from the slums, who meets a legendary knight and grows into a swordmaster. The series is being serialized in 10 languages, including Korean, English and Japanese, and has surpassed 250 million cumulative views globally.

The two companies plan to optimize the original's expansive world and action sequences for mobile. The game will use the aura system, a core element of the original, as the central axis for combat and progression. They also plan to add distinctive flashy dot graphics and fast-paced action direction to increase immersion.

Developer CodeDragon stressed it will move beyond simple stat competition and offer fun from cooperation among users and strategic competition.

Seung-hoon Lee (이승훈), game studio lead at Studio Lico, said 'The Starry Swordmaster' is an IP with a solid narrative and appealing action elements. He said the company will present a well-made game that can satisfy both original fans and new users.
