The Korea Association for ICT Promotion (KAIT) said on March 9 that Kim Jeong-gi (김정기), a former director-general at the Ministry of Science and ICT, has officially taken office as its 11th full-time vice chairman.

Kim earned bachelor's and master's degrees in control and instrumentation engineering at Seoul National University and a doctorate in computer engineering at Virginia Tech in the United States.

He entered public service in 1995 through the 30th National Technology Examination and served as director of Future Talent Development at the Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning, head of the ICT and broadcasting technology policy division, and director of broadcasting industry policy at the Ministry of Science and ICT. He also served as chief of the Jeonnam Regional Post Office and as inspector general at the ministry, gaining administrative experience spanning central-government policy planning and the industry front line.

In his inaugural address, Kim said the association's role and responsibility are growing "at an important time when the government's vision to leap into the world's top 3 AI powers is being pursued." He said he would "faithfully carry out" the role of linking industry and government as a public-private cooperation platform leading the era of AI transformation.
