Rob Pardo (롭 팔도), development chief and CEO of team-based player-versus-player (PvP) game 'Alkeron', published by DreamAge and developed by Bonfire Studios, will deliver a keynote speech at the Game Developers Conference (GDC), the world's largest game developer event.
DreamAge said on March 9 that Pardo, a former chief creative officer at Blizzard and the founder of Bonfire Studios, will take the stage for a keynote at 9 a.m. local time on March 12 at the GDC Festival of Gaming main stage in San Francisco. The on-site talk will be livestreamed worldwide on GDC's official Twitch channel.
The theme of the talk is "The journey to making games that are remembered for a long time." Pardo is set to present the process of making games that can keep players engaged for a long time and his development philosophy, based on decades of game development experience.
Pardo, regarded as one of the most influential developers in the game industry, worked at Blizzard for about 17 years and played a key role in developing global hit titles including StarCraft II, World of Warcraft and Diablo III. In 2006, Time magazine also named him among the "100 most influential people in the world." After leaving Blizzard, he co-founded Bonfire Studios in 2016 and has continued a development culture based on creative independence and passion.
Bonfire Studios' first title, Alkeron, is a battle royale PvP game in which 45 players are divided into teams of 3, with 15 teams competing. Players can combine various items to build their own strategies and builds, and its hallmark is strategic depth in which the course of battle changes depending on choices.
Alkeron validated its gameplay through community tests in South Korea and Japan last December. It then released a Steam demo starting on Feb. 21 and took part in Steam Next Fest (SNF), presenting a new combat experience to gamers worldwide.
