Tourism fintech platform company Roadsystem signed a strategic memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Korea Medical Tourism Promotion Association, an incorporated association, to build a dedicated platform for foreign medical tourists.
The key to the agreement is the joint issuance of a prepaid payment card based on TripPASS, a tourism finance platform operated by Roadsystem. The card is tentatively named the K-Medicon card. It is designed to handle not only medical payments but also tourism, shopping and transportation on a single card. TripPASS integrates authentication and payments for foreign tourists using mobile passport-based eKYC technology.
The two organizations also agreed to jointly pursue initiatives such as upgrading medical tourism marketing based on AI big data and expanding efforts to attract foreign medical tourists. The model is drawing attention for improving opaque patient referral structures and payment inconveniences in the existing medical tourism industry through a digital platform.
The Korea Medical Tourism Promotion Association will be responsible for attracting patients and overseas marketing through its network of member hospitals and global channels, while Roadsystem will handle platform development and operation of payment services.
Chairman Jin-kook Kim (김진국) said, "This agreement is an important turning point in which the K-medical tourism industry is advanced on the basis of a digital platform." He added, "We will create an environment in which foreign patients can use Korean medical services more safely and conveniently." CEO Yang-ho Jang (장양호) said, "We will build a new digital tourism infrastructure model that connects medical services with tourism consumption."
