IBM has invested in design-to-code startup Anima to help companies innovate how they design digital products for the AI era, SiliconANGLE reported on Feb. 5 local time.
Anima automatically converts UI designs into code. It supports both developers and non-developers in creating, modifying and debugging applications using natural-language commands. The focus is on combining design and engineering rather than a code-centered development approach.
The Anima platform integrates with Adobe XD, Figma and Sketch, among others, to convert visual designs into code. Global companies including Samsung Electronics, Amazon, Apple, Deloitte and Accenture have already adopted it, cutting design projects by an average of 50 percent and reducing front-end coding costs by 80 percent, the company said.
Through the investment, IBM plans to support Anima in strengthening integration with a range of enterprise design tools and expanding support for legacy code. Emily Fontaine (에밀리 퐁텐), global head of IBM Venture Capital, said Anima's platform is receiving a strong response from corporate design and product teams and will lead innovation as engineering and design converge.
