DigitalToday reporter Chi-gyu Hwang - Cloud security company Zscaler has acquired browser security specialist SquareX, SiliconANGLE reported on Feb. 6. The size of the acquisition was not disclosed.

SquareX has technology that blocks browser-based threats such as phishing and session hijacking. It detects threats in real time by monitoring behavior inside the browser without relying on URL reputation or network inspection. It provides security through a lightweight extension that works on existing browsers such as Chrome and Edge, and does not require a separate enterprise browser.

The technology creates an isolated temporary browser session when a user clicks a suspicious link or file to block malware or data leakage. Zscaler plans to use it to help companies maintain strong security in existing browsers without third-party browsers.

Zscaler founder and CEO Jay Chaudhry (제이 초드리) said existing VPNs and virtual desktop infrastructure carry major security risks, and that it will further strengthen its zero trust security platform with SquareX.
