Kakao said on Thursday it will launch collaboration goods using its emoticons with GS Retail for the Valentine's Day and White Day season.
The collaboration was planned as part of OMO (Online Merge with Offline) marketing that combines offline products and digital content. Kakao will introduce four types of "Love Season Confession Package" using Kakao emoticons under the theme of "confession". A key feature is that it captures various everyday confession scenarios through the emoticons’ distinctive emotional expressions.
The goods to be released total 4 types: a Kakao emoticon removable sticker set (15,800 won), a Kakao emoticon acrylic keyring set (17,100 won), a Kakao emoticon screen cleaner set (19,700 won) and a Kakao emoticon mousepad set (22,700 won).
The products can be purchased at GS25 convenience stores operated by GS Retail. Users can also search for "Kakao emoticon" in the "Find Stock" feature in the WooridongneGS app to check whether nearby stores sell the items and their stock status.
Each package was made using popular Kakao emoticon characters: Gomdoljjing and Tokkijjing, Daengdaengui World, Jjageunkongjjangkeun Kong, Cheese Duck, Keo Ham and Hachanayong.
Kakao will also provide 2 "Emoticon Plus vouchers" to customers who purchase the goods. The vouchers are randomly configured as 1 of 7 types ranging from a 3-day pass to a 12-month pass, and can be used via a QR code in a scratch-lottery format without registering a payment method.
Ji-hyun Kim (김지현), leader of Kakao Emoticon Tribe, said, "We planned this collaboration so people can enjoy various confession situations suitable for Valentine's Day through emoticons." Kim said, "Through OMO marketing that combines GS25’s offline distribution network and the Kakao emoticon service, we will provide a new user experience."
