Daedong Mobility is moving to expand the rollout of electric motorcycles for deliveries. Daedong Mobility said on Thursday it has decided to work with the government and delivery platform companies to promote the shift to electric motorcycles for deliveries.
The company took part on Wednesday in a signing ceremony held at Baemin Rider School in Hanam, south of Seoul, hosted by the Ministry of Climate, Energy and Environment. Fifteen companies and institutions attended, including motorcycle makers, 3 delivery platforms, a delivery agency, a rental company, a delivery service mutual aid association and the Korea Automobile Environmental Association.
The agreement aims to have electric motorcycles account for at least 25 percent of new motorcycles for deliveries by 2030 and at least 60 percent by 2035. The industry, from manufacturers to battery-swap infrastructure operators, delivery platforms and rental companies, agreed to build an ecosystem for electric motorcycles. The government and the industry plan to increase battery-swap electric motorcycles in the short term and improve performance and convenience for small and mid-sized electric motorcycles over the medium to long term.
Daedong Mobility will expand distribution of electric motorcycles tailored to delivery conditions. Its flagship GS100 series comes standard with a telematics system that includes front and rear dashcams and remote-control functions. In addition to models that support battery swapping, it launched a plug-in model in June last year that can be charged at home.
The company will pursue development of electric motorcycles suited to the delivery business environment and upgrade its services. It plans to continue expanding its electrification business in domestic and overseas markets.
Won Yu-hyeon (원유현), CEO of Daedong Mobility, said, "This agreement is a meaningful starting point for the government and industry to join forces and push in earnest for the delivery industry's eco-friendly transition." He said, "Daedong Mobility will continue supplying high-quality domestically made electric motorcycles that reflect on-the-ground needs in delivery, and contribute to improving the urban environment and supporting delivery workers."
