Song Kyung-hee (송경희), chair of the Personal Information Protection Commission, attended the regular general meeting of the Korea Personal Information Protection Officers Association in Seoul on Wednesday and shared key personal data policies for 2026.

At the event, Song presented key tasks including effective sanctions and boosting investment in protection, preventive measures and inspections by the public and private sectors, support for AX innovation and establishing rules, protecting privacy in people’s daily lives, and building a global data trust network.

She stressed that privacy officers who oversee personal data management and use in the field play a critical role in building a safe data use system centered on prevention. She added that they should actively communicate on-site difficulties, such as challenges in using data, with the commission.

Yeom Heung-yeol (염흥열), the association’s chair, said, "The large-scale breach incidents that occurred last year showed that protecting personal data is a core task that determines corporate trust and sustainability, and further, the well-being of society as a whole." He said, "Going forward, the association will establish itself as a central platform that leads personal data protection through systematic activities such as strengthening policy communication and setting standards in new technology environments."

The association plans to actively work this year to build a preventive protection system by strengthening the practical role of privacy officers, including holding a public-private forum jointly with the commission to expand policy communication and revising the privacy officer work guide.
