The government will support commercialisation to help apply research and development results in the public security field to on-site use.
The Ministry of Science and ICT and the National Police Agency said on Feb. 5 they will fully push the programme to support commercialisation of core technologies for the security new industry from this year and have begun a call for new projects.
The programme aims to address limits that have delayed on-site adoption of security R&D results because links to commercialisation after technology development have been insufficient. It focuses on building a commercialisation-focused R&D system specialised in the security field that supports the full cycle, from technology development to productisation, certification and market entry.
The Ministry of Science and ICT and the National Police Agency plan to invest a total of 27.3 billion won over six years from this year through 2031 to support 44 tasks. In the first year of the programme, they will select 7 new tasks and provide about 500,000,000 won over two years.
The call for new tasks runs until March 3. More details are available on the websites of the Ministry of Science and ICT, the National Police Agency and the Science Policing Promotion Center.
O Dae-hyun (오대현), director general for Future Strategic Technology Policy at the Ministry of Science and ICT, said, "Through this programme, we expect it will help strengthen scientific policing capabilities while also serving as a catalyst for excellent companies to enter security R&D."
