E-Mart said on Wednesday it will run main sales of Lunar New Year gift sets from Feb. 7 to Feb. 17.
Earlier, E-Mart ran a preorder campaign for Lunar New Year gift sets from Dec. 26 to Feb. 2, posting a roughly 18.3 percent increase from the previous Lunar New Year.
Traders and Everyday posted double-digit sales growth. Over the same period, Traders sales rose 29.3 percent and Everyday sales increased 23.4 percent. Early-bird demand also emerged at warehouse-style discount stores and in the SSM format.
The company cited strong demand for bulk purchases as a key factor behind record preorder sales. During the first and second preorder periods (Dec. 26 to Jan. 30), sales from bulk purchases of 500 or more gift sets in a single order rose 76.3 percent from the same period a year earlier. E-Mart said its preorder promotion was effective because customers preparing holiday gifts for many people received greater benefits the earlier and the more they bought.
E-Mart plans to keep that momentum during the main sales period and focus on selling value-for-money gift sets.
For fruit, it will expand its mixed citrus set, which is in season during the Lunar New Year holiday. For meat gift sets, it will focus on products priced in the 100,000 won range to reduce the burden of purchase. For seafood gift sets, it will offer products with high satisfaction across various price points. It also strengthened its wine lineup.
Jeong Woo-jin (정우진), head of marketing at E-Mart, said, "This Lunar New Year, many customers flocked to preorders that offer rich benefits due to high inflation," adding, "E-Mart will prepare various products and benefits during the main gift set sales season as well."
