The Ministry of Science and ICT’s Postal Service said on Wednesday it will enter an emergency work system from Feb. 6 to ensure the safe and swift delivery of mail.

The Postal Service will operate a “special mail-handling period for the 2026 Lunar New Year holiday” through Feb. 20. It expects about 12.32 million parcel items to be accepted nationwide during the period and will operate 24 sorting hubs and three logistics centers at maximum capacity.

To ensure a safe working environment for postal workers, it will work to prevent accidents depending on weather conditions such as cold waves, heavy snowfall and icy roads. It will strengthen staff training on work stoppages and swift evacuation depending on the issuance of weather alerts. It completed on-site inspections of postal machinery, electrical facilities and vehicles before the special period in line with safety manuals.

Acting Postal Service chief Gwak Byeong-jin (곽병진) said, “We will do our best to deliver Lunar New Year holiday mail safely to the people.” He said some deliveries could be delayed due to a temporary surge in volumes and asked for the public’s cooperation and understanding.
