Amazon MGM Studios is accelerating development of AI tools for film and TV production. After introducing a dedicated AI studio last summer, Amazon MGM Studios plans to begin full-scale testing with industry partners.

Amazon has completed internal testing of the AI tools and will run a closed beta programme starting in March next year, TechCrunch reported on Feb. 4 local time, citing Reuters.

Albert Cheng (알버트 청), head of Amazon MGM Studios, said the focus is on supporting production teams rather than replacing creators. He said the goal is to improve production efficiency and reduce costs.

Amazon is currently working with "Maleficent" producer Robert Stromberg, "The Big Bang Theory" actor Kunal Nayyar and former Pixar animator Colin Brady to explore ways to use the AI tools. It also plans to apply large language models in cooperation with Amazon Web Services (AWS).

Amazon MGM Studios is already using AI in film production. It used 350 AI-generated scenes in season 2 of "House of David". Netflix is also making building-collapse scenes with AI, and AI-based content production is spreading, TechCrunch reported.
