Anthropic will not allow advertising on its AI chatbot Claude, CNBC reported on Feb. 4.
The move runs counter to OpenAI testing ads on ChatGPT. Anthropic said on its blog, "Claude users will not see ads or sponsored links, and chatbot responses will not be influenced."
Anthropic, founded in 2021 by former OpenAI researchers, said, "Our business model generates revenue through enterprise contracts and paid subscriptions, and we will reinvest it to improve Claude." It added, "Even if other AI companies choose advertising, we will go a different way."
OpenAI last month began testing ads for free and subscribing ChatGPT users in the United States. OpenAI says the ads are clearly displayed below chatbot responses and do not affect the answers.
