LG AI Graduate School, which completed the Ministry of Education approval process late last year, is preparing to officially open in March. It held a degree-awarding ceremony on Feb. 3 at LG AI Graduate School in LG's K Square in Magok, Seoul, for 2 people who finished the degree programme as an in-house course.

The event is the last degree-awarding ceremony before LG AI Graduate School transitions into an officially approved master’s and doctoral degree-granting institution under the Ministry of Education.

Woo-hyung Lim (임우형), co-head of research at LG AI Research, said, "I send deep respect and congratulations for the passion of our graduates, who have balanced work and study and have been reborn as leading agents of change equipped with AI capabilities. I hope you will now lead LG’s future in your respective workplaces through continuous learning and execution."

LG AI Graduate School said graduates Young-tak Na (나영탁), a principal researcher in the AI SW Platform Development Team at LG Electronics, and Yoon-ho Shin (신윤호), a senior member of the Service AI Research Team at LG Uplus, completed education at the same level as an officially approved graduate school and achieved strong results, including publishing SCI-level papers.

The degree-awarding ceremony is meaningful in that it presented a blueprint for AI talent development that LG AI Graduate School will newly pursue.

LG AI Graduate School completed the Ministry of Education approval late last year and is preparing for a new start in March with 11 master’s students and 6 doctoral students who passed the entrance exam, as the country’s first in-house graduate school able to officially grant master’s and doctoral degrees.

Hye-yeon Jung (정혜연), head of the academy team at LG AI Research, said, "LG AI Graduate School has focused on training LG AI experts and, based on that, on customer experience and creating differentiated value." She added, "As we approach a new start, LG AI Graduate School will do its best to break down the boundaries between industry and academia and foster research leaders who will shoulder the future of South Korea’s AI industry."
