NongHyup said on March 8 it would urgently inject 30 billion won of its own funds to ease the fuel-cost burden on farmers and the public as international oil prices surge.

NongHyup said it would spend 25 billion won to support discounts on tax-free fuel for the next month. The support will cover volumes equivalent to 50 percent of the average March consumption over the past three years.

It will allocate support on a differentiated basis in the order of diesel, kerosene and gasoline, which are heavily used in agriculture. Support will be provided based on monthly usage.

For gas station discounts for general consumers, NH Nonghyup Bank funds of 5 billion won will be used. From March 13 to April 10, customers will receive 200 won per litre in cash back if they pay at least 50,000 won with an NH Nonghyup Card at NongHyup gas stations (NH-OIL) nationwide.

Kang Ho-dong (강호동), chairman of NongHyup, said, "I hope fuel price support helps stabilise agricultural product prices." He said, "In step with government policies for price stability, we will continue to prepare support measures that can provide practical help to farmers and the livelihoods of ordinary people."
