Naver Webtoon is introducing a crossover project that brings together protagonists from popular webtoons in one place.

On Tuesday, Naver Webtoon said it launched a new project, 'Eohwadungdung Flower Seonbi Group', and will release various goods. It is the first case of presenting main characters from separately serialised works by tying them into a single shared universe.

The project features 5 popular characters, including Go Eun-hyeok from 'Operation Name: Pure Love' and Terdeo Rapireon from 'My In-Laws Are Obsessed With Me'. It also includes Kim Tae-joon from 'Desperate to Devour', Oh Hyun-do from 'The Selfish Theory of Love' and Kwon Min-woo from 'Fox Play'. The combined number of domestic and overseas “interest” registrations for the five works totals 19.3 million.

New goods made from artwork created directly by each artist will also be released. Six items, including diaries and acrylic stands produced by Modane, will be available for pre-order on Naver Webtoon’s official goods mall. Seven types of mobile accessories, including phone cases produced by Shinjimoru, will be sold through Shinjimoru’s official store.

It will also meet fans offline. Self-studio Photoism will provide the Flower Seonbi Group photo-frame service at about 850 locations, including in South Korea as well as in the United States and Japan.

Naver Webtoon said the project will use IP with strong fandoms to provide new fun and aim to expand creators’ earnings. Its previously introduced AI conversation service, Character Chat, has also surpassed 3.5 million cumulative users, demonstrating the power of character IP.

Nam Kyung-bo (남경보), head of IP business at Naver Webtoon, said it is “an attempt for IPs with strong fandoms to come together and form a new universe.” He added, “We will continue to expand the webtoon IP experience by linking high-quality goods with digital services.”
