HN Innovalley said on Monday it installed an AI-based system to prevent the spread of electric-vehicle fires in the B3-level EV charging area at Hyundai Department Store’s Daechi-dong headquarters. The system uses AI to detect flames, smoke and temperature when a fire occurs, then automatically releases cooling water to help extinguish it within the 10 to 15-minute golden time for an initial response.

The fire spread prevention system operates by using upward-facing sprinkler nozzles to intensively cool the underside of an EV battery. This can delay thermal runaway and minimise the spread of damage. The company explained that the underground charging area operates in an unmanned automatic mode for an initial response system based on automatic detection and automatic cooling, given the high risk of spread if a fire occurs.

HN Innovalley held an on-site demonstration on Jan. 30 to show the system’s effectiveness. The demonstration was conducted based on the equipment that had been installed. The site review checked applicability in a charging-area environment and operational convenience, and verified safety enhancement effects.

HN Innovalley is an IT service and ICT implementation company founded by HN Group President Jung Dae-sun (정대선). In addition to firefighting infrastructure, the company provides IT services, electrical and communications infrastructure and MRO facility management. The company plans to expand the application scope of its EV fire response solution for public and corporate customers based on this case. It will support advances in safe operation processes that consider the overall facility environment, operational flow and management systems.

HN Innovalley CEO Jung Deuk-young (정득영) said, "As underground EV charging areas carry a high risk of spread if a fire occurs, an initial response system based on automatic detection and automatic cooling is important." He added, "Based on this deployment case, we will expand customer-tailored safety infrastructure and strengthen integrated support that includes post-installation operational inspections and improvement consulting."
