Woori Bank delivered a fund to the KIST Future Foundation under the Korea Institute of Science and Technology (KIST) to support the development of science and technology and the training of next-generation researchers. It is supporting efforts to create a better research environment and nurture talent.
Woori Bank said on Feb. 3 it delivered 1 billion won in a science and technology sharing fund to the KIST Future Foundation on Feb. 2 at KIST headquarters in Seongbuk district, Seoul. Those attending the ceremony included Cho Se-hyung (조세형), head of Woori Bank's institutional group, Oh Sang-rok (오상록), president of KIST, and Kim Yong-jik (김용직), chairman of the KIST Future Foundation.
The fund will be used to develop researchers to tackle national and social challenges, identify and support promising early-career researchers, provide scholarship programmes for future science and technology talent, and run science and technology education programmes for developing countries.
The KIST Future Foundation is a foundation that carries on the founding purpose of KIST and promotes research support and talent development. Woori Bank has maintained a cooperative relationship as a financial partner since KIST's early days in 1966, and the donation was pursued based on that partnership.
"As a financial partner that has been with KIST since its birth, Woori Bank has supported South Korea's journey in advancing science and technology," Cho said. "I hope this fund helps build a virtuous cycle in which research and talent development continue."
