SK Telecom posts the top ranking in Asia and sixth globally in the Digital Inclusion Benchmark (DIB) assessment released by the nonprofit independent evaluator World Benchmarking Alliance (WBA).
According to the SKT Newsroom on Monday, SKT scored 57.1 points in the DIB assessment. It ranked sixth among 200 companies globally and was the highest-ranked Asian company. DIB is a global ESG assessment indicator developed by WBA to help achieve the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The DIB assessment consists of 6 areas: digital access, capability, use, innovation, sustainable value creation and human rights. SKT recorded consistently high scores across key areas including digital capability, digital use and sustainable value creation. SKT stressed it was recognised for efforts to reflect digital inclusion across its overall ESG management.
SKT said, "This is an achievement that proves on the global stage that the company's digital inclusion policies are making a tangible contribution to solving social challenges." It added, "We expect it to serve as a foundation for increasing management credibility with global investors and ESG rating agencies."
SKT is expanding digital inclusion into actual services and businesses across care, accessibility, education and capacity building. Designing technology so it can function as a social safety net is the core of SKT's digital inclusion strategy.
Eom Jong-hwan (엄종환), head of SKT's ESG Promotion Office, said, "Digital inclusion is a core value that helps technology reach all members of society warmly." He added, "In step with strengthening global standards, we will use technology responsibly and be reborn as an ESG company that works together with customers."
