[DigitalToday reporter Chi-gyu Hwang] Microsoft is considering introducing a top menu bar in Windows 11, The Verge reported on Jan. 30 local time.

The project, called the Command Palette Dock internally, is led by the PowerToys team. It would be fixed at the top of the screen, similar to Linux, macOS and older versions of Windows.

Microsoft released concept images to gather user feedback. Nils Laute (닐스 라우테), a principal product manager at Microsoft, explained that the dock can be placed wherever users want, including the top, left, right or bottom, and that extensions can be pinned to the start, middle or end sections.

Users can also change the background, style and theme and freely rearrange extensions. It links to the Command Palette launcher released last year and offers functions similar to macOS Spotlight.

Microsoft is currently collecting user opinions, and developers can download an early version from PowerToys on GitHub and test it with Visual Studio.
