The Ministry of Science and ICT’s Korea Post said on Thursday it had identified spoof emails that falsely display the official email address of the internet post office customer support centre as the sender, and urged users to be cautious.

The emails say deliveries are being delayed due to unpaid fees and urge recipients to make quick payments to complete delivery. They include links designed to prompt payment. Clicking the link or opening an attachment could result in personal information theft or malware infection. The post office does not request payment of unpaid fees or the entry of personal information or passwords by email.

Korea Post posted warning pop-ups on the internet post office website and mobile app. It recommended that users who receive suspicious emails should not click links, open attachments or enter personal information, and should delete them immediately and check with the postal customer centre.

Korea Post chief Park In-hwan (박인환) said, "If you receive a suspicious email impersonating the post office, please do not click links or open attachments and delete it immediately."
